Considering such cause, we developed the R-GFY external casing packer used when cementing and completion are absent in case of lowering screens to the oil reservoir in the horizontal well. The R-GFY external casing packer can effectively prevent channelling of oil, gas and water layers, and thus lengthen the well life.

Application introduction of R-GFY external casing packer for segregated completion of thermal recovery horizontal well

In recently, we have investigated and analysed the problems generated when cementing and completion are absent in case of lowering screens to the oil reservoir in the horizontal well. In conclusion, well life is shortened as well workover cannot be fulfilled due to well waterflooding at the early stage, which is the main cause of well production stop. Considering such cause, we developed the R-GFY external casing packer used when cementing and completion are absent in case of lowering screens to the oil reservoir in the horizontal well. The R-GFY external casing packer can effectively prevent channelling of oil, gas and water layers, and thus lengthen the well life.

The R-GFY external casing packer for segregated completion of thermal recovery horizontal wells can not only be used for implementing the segregated completion of horizontal wells but can also be widely applied in the hanging liner without cementing and completion,  lateral well drilling and recompletion.

Working principle of R-GFY external casing packer for segregated completion of thermal recovery horizontal wells

Connect the R-GFY external casing packer for thermal recovery and the completion liner, and lower them to the design location. When steam injection temperature rises to 150℃, expanding materials in the R-GFY external casing packer for thermal recovery start expanding, which enables the repulsion mechanism in the external casing packer to generate sufficient axial thrust. The upper/lower seals affected by the thrust are deformed, blocking the annular space between the casing and the wellbore and completely isolating the annular space of the R-GFY external casing packer for thermal recovery in the upper/lower hole sections. In this way, the channelling of oil, gas and water layers is prevented effectively.
